Another Fresh Re-start

Fragments of Time (時空碎片 / 時ソ破片)

The flow of time has changed the form of my diary, from descriptive passages back in the last century to the most recent set of photo diaries, and has now undergone another 'metamorphosis' into a blog.

This is a recording of memories known as 'fragments of time'. Futher fragments will appear as time passes by. Please click on the panels on the top / side to move the timeline forward / backward for navigation.

The occasional sunshine during last month has given some effect on the tan but it was quite short lived. No chance recently for further tanning due to bad weather. Will see how the progress goes later.

Tokyo Tower at Night

Tokyo Tower Tokyo Tower One of my most favourite photo spots in Tokyo would be Tokyo Tower. During the recent trips the weather did not really permit nice night time photo oppotunities for that. If I have chance to go there again, I will try to shoot my own set of Tokyo Tower photos under my own perspective. The interior of the tower is not the greatest attraction spot but the monument as a whole is pleasing to see and is very classical. Meanwhile, I have just been introduced to a very worthwhile photo site about Tokyo at night. I think the photos there are approaching near-professional quality and definitely a site worth bookmarking.

The Real Chibi Maruko

1st June, 2006.

Chibi Maruko

Chibi Maruko The cartoon of Chibi Maruko was famously known by many people and 2006 is the 15th Anniversairy of this cartoon series being broadcasted in TV. To celebrate this, Fuji TV had created a 3-episode series of drama using real actors to depict the world from the eyes of the story creator, Sakura Momoko (who was born in 1965 and should be 41 years-old by now).

The background of this story was set in the early 70s (long before my birth) talking about life in Japan from the eyes of a primary 3 school girl, and this special drama series focused further on points like family and friendship.

I think the story itself really worths watching and would attract much attention from not just children but also from adults who have been watching this cartoon during their childhood. It is a story that have scraped upon many people's past.

O Sakana Tenkoku (The Fish Heaven)

1st June, 2006.

Sakana

I love sushi and I like it fresh. I often passed the sushi corner in Jusco supermarket and ended up buying a couple of boxes of my favourite ones for occasional meals. There was often a CD player at the counter ended up playing the same music everytime I passed by singing "sakana, sakana, sakana..." (literally meaning "fish, fish, fish...."). This "theme song" (well I kind of gussed it should be) isn't the most original way of boosting sales but definitely is becoming quite catchy in mind, and I always jokingly wonder if there are any subliminal messages lying around telling me to keep coming back to buy their yummy seafood, as I really did anyway.

O Sakana Tenkoku Driven by sudden curiosity, I kind of wishing to know what this song is actually about and ending up finding it in the Pony Canyon Website. This song is called "O Sakana Tenkoku" (the "Fish Heaven") and was officially used by the Japanese seafood association to promote their products in a lot of Japanese department stores since 2002.

Just a miscellaneous point to ponder.... Hey isn't this the "Fish Hell" in terms of the point of view of the fishies? The world "heaven" seems a bit out of place somehow.

Natural Q - 自然卷

Natural Q Went to the reopened Log-on in Festival Walk yesterday and found a lot of new changes. The CD shelf was displaying a variety of albums and suddenly came across one produced by the Taiwanese band "Narural Q" (自然卷). I have never heard of them but the music in this album has a very distinctly fresh and homely style. I think it is well-worth the $145 anyway.Highly recommended tracks - "Fish Can" (魚罐頭), "Buy" (買), "Taxi" (計程車), "Goatherd" (牧羊人).

魚罐頭
-------------------------

幾個月前你還說愛我
沒有我你不能活
現在你都不跟我聯絡
連通email都沒有

一開始 每天都唱情歌
沒多久 正眼就不看我
難道是我已變成魚罐頭
OH NO NO NO

無聊的時候請你打個電話給我
只要動一動手指頭
不會再讓你有太多等候
無聊的時候請你打個電話給我
只要你親口告訴我
你比較喜歡吃新鮮牛肉
無聊的時候請你打個電話給我
雖然我只是魚罐頭
卻可以陪著你過得比較久

Vivienne Westwood

Besides buying the CD, also went to pick up the new Westwood VIP card.... though to be honest, I have not done much shopping there for a really long time. Kind of wishing if it is a Burberry one instead (though they never really produced one)....

Thinking back few years ago when I started working, I was really crazy about this brand and spent a lot of money on it's stuff. But perhaps nowadays it had become a bit too common to use as bombarded by the counterfeit goods.

And by the way, the monogram of this brand is the Queen's orb (as a gesture of anglomania by the designer), and it is not Jupiter as thought by some people.

Project Early

3rd June, 2006.

Project Early

The mail order arrived today with the premier album by "Project Early". Project Early is the crossover collaboration between the Taiwanese groups Sticky Rice (糯米糰) and Natural Q (自然捲). I have heard about Sticky Rice as well and they also produced a number of my favourite music previously. The end result of this new album is definitely no disappointment. My comment on this is a mixture of smooth and freshly produced Light Funk + Bossa Nova, which is extremely rare in chinese music especially with the current Canto Pop market. A high quality production it is.

New Doggie

PSP - The Dog : Happy Life

My Dog : Prince The weather was so bad today that it was raining cats and dogs almost non stop. The streets were flooded and being on the bus this morning was just like sailing on the boat and lucky it arrived on the destination safe and sound. Talking about dogs, I have just bought a PSP game yesterday called "The Dog : Happy Life". It is the first of its kind in the PSP game series dealing with virtual pets. The game play may not be as comparable to the NDS Nintendog Game but a lot of functions are also very applaudable especially the Camera mode, and with the use of the "fish lens" provided in the game, the quality is very comparable to the usual commercial photos released by "the Dog" team.

My Dog : Prince To start the game, I have kept myself a Yorkshire Terrier called Prince. I have bought quite a number of accessories to dress him up including back pack, hats, glasses, collars, scarfs, t-shirts, boots etc.... I also bought him a bunny rabbit outfit but it is not quite suitable for a boy. Anyway here are a few photos of my Prince, isn't he a pretty boy?

A few more styles for Prince. Note that for the bunny rabbit outfit, he doesn't look too enjoyable inside that.... funny though. The extra McDonald's outfit is also a special present released by the official website which proves the game has a lot of potential for expansion. There is also a weekly outfit contest in the official page to earn presents for further upgrades in the game.

Apparently there was also a collaboration between McDonald's (in Japan only!) and The Dog before giving away some special version of the game through a recent Happy Meal promotional lucky draw. Too bad that this is not part of the plan in Hong Kong.

The once in a full moon bad luck
Tuesday the 13th

13th June, 2006.

Tuesday the 13th Yesterday and last night's night duty was definitely not a good one. Problems piled up during the whole 24 hours and the work place was filled with dishonest trouble seeking people being hostile at everyone, followed by a number of other emergencies to be sorted during the whole night. The kind of environment that was best explained by the famous "Murphy's Law" - "If anything can do wrong, it will go wrong" ...... and it did. Maybe I start to dislike people who request fake sick leaves.

Wordy Rappinghood

14th June, 2006.

Tom Tom Club - Wordy Rappinghood I am not too fond of Canto Pop in general but have come across an interesting song few days ago called "Wordy Rappinghood" by Jill (衛詩) in her debut album. I like the mimick of the 80's style music and the rapping (especially the french chorus) inside. In fact, the origin of this song by Tom Tom Club would be even more interesting. But after all, this trial by Jill is already not bad.

Wordy Rappinghood
--------------------------------

What are words worth?
What are words worth? - words

Words in papers, words in books
Words on TV, words for crooks
Words of comfort, words of peace
Words to make the fighting cease
Words to tell you what to do
Words are working hard for you
Eat your words but don't go hungry
Words have always nearly hung me

What are words worth?
What are words worth? - words

Words of nuance, words of skill
And words of romance are a thrill
Words are stupid, words are fun
Words can put you on the run

Mots presse, mots sense,
Mots qui disent la verite,
Mots maudits, mots mentis,
Mots qui manquent le fruit d'esprit

What are words worth?
What are words worth? - words

It's a rap race, with a fast pace
Concrete words, abstract words
Crazy words and lying words
Hazy words and dying words
Words of faith and tell me straight
Rare words and swear words
Good words and bad words

What are words worth?
What are words worth? - words

Words can make you pay and pay
Four-letter words I cannot say
Panty, toilet, dirty devil
Words are trouble, words are subtle
Words of anger, words of hate
Words over here, words out there
In the air and everywhere
Words of wisdom, words of strife
Words that write the book I like
Words won't find no right solution
To the planet earth's pollution
Say the right word, make a million
Words are like a certain person
Who can't say what they mean
Don't mean what they say
With a rap rap here and a rap rap there
Here a rap, there a rap
Everywhere a rap rap

Rap it up for the common good
Let us enlist the neighbourhood
It's okay, I've overslept
This is a wordy rappinghood, okay, bye.

What are words worth?
What are words worth? - words

What are words worth?
What are words worth? - words

He'll stop ... Don't stop ... Stop.

The Cat Store

16th June, 2006.

the

the Went to the "Cat Store" Cafe (阿貓地攤) today and had tea. This is the second time I visited this homely cafe with the theme of cats and seeing little (well... not so little as they look quite well-nourished) kitties passing by everywhere whilst eating. I can later see why the kitties would get quite fat around (yes, maybe fat is the right description) since they all tend to gain a lot of their "service tips" from the customers, hehe....

the The names of the dishes in the cafe are all cat-related but of course no literal cruelty to cats e.g. 貓麵 (cat noodles) , 貓茄茄 (baked tomatoes with cheese, the kitty style)..... I have chosen for myself a "snowy cat" (雪貓) which is actually an apple sorbet.

I enjoyed every of my monthly visit to my stylist for hair cuts. Besides being an occasion for a friendly chats, these also were chances to scan through all the updated magazines. A recent issue of Men's Non-no included the latest seasonal collection from Burberry Black Label. It looks like I would like the whole lot of it. I miss the last visits to Tokyo especially the shoppings, and Burberry is definitely a must on the list. The Blue Label shop in the main street in Harajuku (Next to the Paul Smith Shop) had an exquisite collection different from those in the Black Label shop (and definitely much better than the Burberry London series in Hong Kong). Shopping was definitely enjoyable especially with those ultra-friendly looking salesperson around, and handing you the bag at the shop door after the sincere 30 degrees bow. I wish to go again.

Tsang kin-wah I like visiting museums and seeing artworks. 3 months ago I paid a visit to the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the most interesting bit was the contemporary works in Hong Kong. The most remembered impressions were from Tsang Kin-wah. 醫生肺腑之言

21st June, 2006.

Two days ago I was in the hospital library during lunch break and I was reading the Reader's Digest and to my surprise, I found this article and I liked it very much. It kind of speaks out all of what I feel.

--------------------------

Yakitate!! Ja-pan (日式麵包王)

Yakitate!! Ja-pan

"Yakitate!! Ja-pan" (日式麵包王) is my recent addiction. Out of the 69-episodes series, I have watched 27 so far. It is a very interesting anime series in the theme of "Ja-pan" (Japanese Bread). It is a combination of comical elements with a range of interesting food knowledge (so it had reminded me about the gluten and caesin that I have just been reading about 2 weeks ago!). The most interesting bit would definitely be the moments of tasting during the contests, with the ultimately exaggerated responds reminded me of a very classic anime that I watched during childhood, "Mister Ajiko" (伙頭智多星). Apparently, the Japanese bakery Yamazaki had also been so interested in these "ja-pans" that they had even tried to sell them in stores as well (see below: the Ja-pan number 61, 8, 58 and 12..... out of them, I think I would really wish to try number 58, which is the crispy cookie coated melon bread, I guess it would be a similar concept to our "pinapple bread" in Hong Kong).

Yakitate!! Ja-pan

Yakitate!! Ja-pan

I think they should be trying to sell out the Ja-pan number 44 too, which, in the story, would send people into heaven (wow!) after tasting because of the exceptional tastiness.
